That was a Close One!

Last Saturday at ten- forty, I went down to the netball courts for the first game of netball since the holidays. My team was TAS ( Te Awamutu Sports) Mbar and we were year 7 & 8, but we were facing TAC ( Te Awamutu Collage) who were year 10 & 11. I was quite lucky because they were short of players so I didn’t have a defence partner.

In the first quarter we wasted them and the score was eight- nil. We were feeling really good about the next quarter. However two more players turned up and I ended up with a really tall partner. They came back at us and even though we tried our best, at the of the second quarter the score was 6-8 to us. Even though we were still winning it wasn’t going to take much to lose.

We were very eager to win this but suddenly their defence picked up and heaps and by the end of the third quarter they were up by two goals. The score was 8-10 to TAC. We were absolutely determined to get those goals back, but we were really losing it. Luckily though we were fitter than them and we got the two goals back. So now we only needed one more goal to win. The buzzer was going to go any minute now. All of a sudden we scored the winning goal, the buzzer went and we won by one. We were all really happy that we had made it. The overall score was 10-11 to us!

Grading

On  Sunday the 28th of June, I have to go down to Kihikihi school and do a karate grading. It will be about four hours long and during that time we probably do about a hundred sit-ups, press-ups, lunges, burpies and we go for a kilometre run. This is as well as fighting, (also known as sparring), and all the work like punches, kicks, and karta work. This is a selection of kicks and punches all put into one.

It’s going to be really hard to get through because I’ve already done two and they were really hard, and even though I made it last time, I had sore muscels for a week! The belt I have at the moment is orange belt black tip,. However I want to double grade to blue belt black tip. This probably won’t happen but it would be great if it did. It would also mean I would be in the top,

School Production

This year at Te Awamutu Intermediate we have a school production. This year the theme is an idol, like American Idol on T.V. I auditioned for a main role as a girl called Jessica (she was the one who wins the competition). When we came back from school camp we saw the call back notice and my name was first on the list! The next Wednesday, all the call back people were sitting in the freezing cold hall, when Mrs Shaw came in she asked for all the girls who were auditioning for Jessica. Almost every girl there stood up. I knew straight away I wasn’t going to get that part. So I looked at the parts and I saw a person called Livinia Rose who was a judge and I decided I would go for her. The call back auditions finished and we could go home. The next Thursday all the people who auditioned were told to go to the library. When we were all in there Mrs Shaw told us who got the main roles. Right at the end they announced the judges and I got the part I wanted! Now we only have three weeks till the production and we are all working really hard. Its going to be a really good experience and I’m really glad I went for it.

Kids for Kids Concert

Last week the school choir travelled to the Founders Theater in Hamilton, where they were met by other school choirs from all over the Waipa District. Everyone was gathered here to see Suzanne Prentice. What happened was we were going to do a singing concert. We arrived at ten in the morning for the rehersal and later in the evening we went back and did the concert.

At six o’clock we arranged to pick up some people and take them to the concert. We arrived and went to changing room 3 were we met others from our school. Forty-five minutes later we all walked onto the stage and the concert was ready to begin…

It was great we sang for two hours and it was heaps of fun as well. Every single person was singing and a girl from our school even got a solo! It is a memory I will never forget.

Savage Tiger Attack

Last night I was watching Campbell Live, at seven o’clock, on T.V. Three, and I heard about a tiger attack in Whangarei. What happened was apparently a White Tiger ripped a man apart at the Whangarei zoo…

Apparently the man was cleaning out the lion pen, when all of  a sudden a tiger turned on him. It came up behind him and mauled him to death. This is a very sad and tragic incident and I would hate to think what the man was thinking at the time and how scary it must of been. I wonder if anyone saw it or if someone found the body. Personally I think the zoo staff should be more careful and should have them move the tigers into the pen, then they should clean out the pen, finally they undo the pen and run out, or something like this. Maybe this would help incidents like this.

2009 Netball

Last weekend the netball grading games took place. We had our first game at 11:30 but we had to get there half an hour earlier to warm up. Well of course I was late! Somehow I managed to play in the first game anyway.

We started off and the opposite team got in two goals. We were getting desperate because there was only 20 minutes to each game. Finally we managed to get in two goals, however they had scored another goal. So at the end of the first half the score was 2/3 to them. We started to really compeditive in the second half. Unfortunately they managed to score two more goals while we only scored one. The overall score was 3/5 to the other team.

We had twenty minutes to warm up for our second game at 12:20. We were all feeling really good and we were all sure we were going to win this. We started off well with three goals while they only had one. After this I forgot to check the scores but I’m pretty sure we either tied or we won by one. In the end we didn’t do too badly and we got into a good grade.

2009 Literacy Quiz!

Last night at my school we had a literacy quiz and sixteen schools attended and it was heaps of fun. This is what happened…

On Wednesday evening we were just about ready to leave for the quiz. Just then dad lost the keys so we couldn’t leave and mum couldn’t find a piece of makeup, so we got to school with five minutes to spare! When we walked through the door we were given a number. My number was fifty six and my sister fifty seven. All of a sudden the host told everyone to sit down so they could start. They had six categories and on the first one our team got all ten questions right. So we were feeling quite good. With the rest of them we only got a few wrong.  Our hopes were getting high and then all of a sudden it was over! We were told to wait until they were ready to announce the winners.

It was time to announce the winners. We were all really nervous and then they said, ‘In third place is Te Awamutu Intermediate 2′ that was the other team from our school. ‘In second place is… Te Awamutu Intermediate 1′ that was us! We were all very happy and couldn’t stop bouncing around. Unfortunatly my sister got 6th but she did win a spot prize when her number was drawn out of the lucky dip.

Paying for Plastic Bags

In New Zealand some shops have started making people pay for plastic bags, in order to save the environment. Personally I think it is a good idea because when some people go to the supermarket  they buy maybe three things and ask for a plastic bag to put their things in.

This is crazy! People need to see what they are doing so that they know what they are doing to this planet. They need to see that it may not affect them, but I think it probably will affect their children or their children’s children. Did you know that the problem to this is so simple? Here it is.

The answer is easy. All you have to do is get reusable bags to put your shopping in, and always say no if someone asks you if you want a plastic and you have under ten items.

The idea of having to pay for a plastic bag is good but ten cents a bag isn’t enough. In my opinion it should be fifty cents.

The Mount

Last week my friend Megan rang me up and asked me if I wanted to go to the Mount with her for the week. Of course, I said yes and got my things packed for the next day.

At 11:30 the net day Megan and her mum picked me up and we were on our way. In the car I had a lollie and they are quite sickening and when I had, had two I felt really sick but we still had to go over the Kaimais and by the time we got over them I was sweating trying to keep my breakfast in place! Anyway we finally got to the bach and we settled in and went down to the beach for ages and got these shells that looked like pawa but they weren’t but they were still cool. For dinner we had a roast and then we watched T.V. and went to bed.

The next day we woke up early and went back down to the beach and waded in the the water and tried to get the pippis that came up onto the shore. In an hour we had about 150 but we chucked them all back and went home and played cards and had tournaments for the rest of the day.

I woke up early again in the morning and read my book while I waited for Meagn to wake up and then we did pretty much the same things that we did the day before but in the evening me, Megan and her mum and dad went for a walk down the beach while her sister cooked dinner. After a while we walked home and it took ages because we had come so far. I was exhausted when we got home but after dinner my tiredness was swept away and Megan and I played Blinds Mans Bluff.

In the morning we went to a market and I got a bracelet, a ring and a head band. When we got back we had a cards tournament and we watched T.V. When it got dark we went and got some movies to watch.

The next day I was excited about going to Bayfairthe big shopping centre and I had some money that needed spending. I got a compact mirror from the pharmacy and some track pants from Farmers.

The same story the next day and this time I got a pack of cards from K- Mart and we got a frozen coke from Mcdonalds along with some chicken nuggets. We got home and watched a movie and afterwards we all played games for about an hour and then we went to bed.

Today was our final day and we went to Fashion Island and I got a vest type thing from Jay-Jays and we got some subway and went home to tidy up.

We had to get up early the next day and we left to get back to T.A.
